Social Significance
Radium is a highly radioactive element it can cause cancer and can have other harmful effects on the human body. It is however useful to treat cancer and has helped many people beat the disease. It is however very rare and hard to extract by it self or in compounds. In nature he fact the for every 3 million parts uranium there is 1 part radium means that it is unlikely that could pose a serious effect on the entire world but the likely hood is there that a serious mishap could occur due human involvement e.g. nuclear power plants.
